*Tariq Ali *was educated at Oxford University, where he became involved 
in student politics, in particular with the movement against the war in 
Vietnam. On graduating he led the Vietnam Solidarity Campaign. He owned 
his own independent television production company, Bandung, which 
produced programs for Channel 4 in the UK during the 1980s. He is a 
regular broadcaster on BBC Radio and contributes articles and journalism 
to magazines and newspapers including The Guardian and the London Review 
of Books. He is editorial director of London publishers Verso and is on 
the board of the New Left Review, for whom he is also an editor. His 
fiction includes a series of historical novels about Islam: Shadows of 
the Pomegranate Tree (1992), The Book of Saladin (1998), The Stone Woman 
(2000), A Sultan in Palermo (2005), and Night of the Golden Butterfly 
(2010). These five books are collectively known as 'The Islam Quintet'.

His non-fiction includes 1968: Marching in the Streets (1998), a social 
history of the 1960s; Conversations with Edward Said (2005); Rough 
Music: Blair, Bombs, Baghdad, London, Terror (2005); Speaking of Empire 
and Resistance(2005), which takes the form of a series of conversations 
with the author; and The Obama Syndrome (2010). The Leopard and the Fox 
(2007) is the script of a three-part TV series commissioned by the BBC 
and later withdrawn, and includes the background to the story. His books 
of essays include The Clash of Fundamentalisms (2002), and The Protocols 
of the Elders of Sodom (2009). Tariq Ali's latest book is The Extreme 
Centre: A Warning (2015).

*Medea Benjamin*

	


*Medea Benjamin* is the co-founder of the women-led peace group CODEPINK 
and the co-founder of the human rights group Global Exchange. She has 
been an advocate for social justice for more than 40 years. Described as 
"one of America's most committed -- and most effective -- fighters for 
human rights" by New York Newsday, and "one of the high profile leaders 
of the peace movement" by the Los Angeles Times, she was one of 1,000 
exemplary women from 140 countries nominated to receive the Nobel Peace 
Prize on behalf of the millions of women who do the essential work of 
peace worldwide.

She is the author of eight books, including Drone Warfare: Killing by 
Remote Control, and her articles appear regularly in outlets such as The 
Huffington Post, CommonDreams, Alternet, The Other Words, and TeleSUR. 
Her forthcoming book is on Saudi Arabia.

Chris Hedges

	


*Chris Hedges *is an author of several New York Times best sellers 
including Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt that he co-wrote with the 
cartoonist Joe Sacco.  He is also a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist 
who was a foreign correspondent for nearly two decades in Latin America, 
The Middle East, Africa, the Balkans and Europe, 15 of those years with 
The New York Times. He writes a weekly column for the online magazine 
Truthdig.  He hosts a weekly show, Days of Revolt, on TeleSur and The 
Real News.  Hedges other books include American Fascists: The Christian 
Right and the War on America, Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy 
and the Triumph of Spectacle and Death of the Liberal Class and his 
latest book Wages of Rebellion: The Moral Imperative of Revolt. He was a 
National Book Critics Circle finalist for his book War Is a Force That 
Gives Us Meaning.  He has taught at Columbia University, New York 
University, Princeton University and the University of Toronto. He 
currently teaches college credit courses through Rutgers University to 
prisoners at a correctional facility in New Jersey.
