ON STRIKE!
CUPE 926 Needs YOUR support!

On Sunday, July 10, CUPE 926, representing custodial, groundskeeping and
trades at Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU), were forced to go on strike
to defend good jobs and quality services in their community.

Their employer is demanding they accept a contract that will give them
almost ‘carte blanche’ contract out work, turning good jobs that support
communities like Waterloo into insecure, precarious work that pays
poverty wages. As well, WLU has threatened to force workers into
accepting their terms and conditions.

These unprecedented threats and bully tactics by WLU are wrong for the
campus and wrong for the community!

*YOU can help. Here’s how:*

  * Join CUPE 926 on the picket line—While help is needed around the
clock, the most important times on the picket line are 7 a.m. to 10
a.m., Monday to Friday. The main picket site is at the WLU front
gates, located at the intersection of University and Hazel in Waterloo.

  * Contact WLU President Max Blouw and tell him to negotiate a fair
contract that respects hard-working, dedicated members of the WLU
community. You can reach Max Blouw the following ways:

*Phone: 519-884-0170 ext. 2250

Email: PresidentMaxBlouw at wlu.ca *

and learn how contracting out harms campuses like WLU and
communities like Waterloo. While you’re there, you can add your name
to a petition calling on Max Blouw to treat CUPE 926 members fairly.

Let’s stand in solidarity with our CUPE 926 sisters and brothers!
