The Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid (CAIA), together with Students 
for Justice in Palestine (SJP Ryerson), Students Against Israeli 
Apartheid - UofT St. George, and UofT Divest, invite you to a screening 
of Gaza Calling, a documentary by Nahed Awwad. Inspired by the 
director's own experiences, the film captures the personal costs faced 
by Palestinian families torn apart by arbitrary Israeli barriers within 
their own country. Following the film screening, there will be a 
moderated talk featuring Issam Alyamani and Jehad Elewiwi,two prominent 
Palestine solidarity activists based in Toronto.

Film Synopsis:
Inspired by the director's own experiences, Gaza Calling captures the 
personal costs faced by Palestinian families torn apart by arbitrary 
Israeli barriers within their own country. Samer attends Birzeit 
University in Ramallah (West Bank) while his family resides in Gaza. 
Mustafa is stranded in Gaza as his mother and siblings desperately try 
to reunite with him in the West Bank. Only a one-hour drive apart, 
neither son has seen his family in person for more than 6 years.  Under 
Israeli law they are considered "infiltrators" in their own country, 
their ID cards restrict them from moving between Gaza and the West Bank. 
As they try to navigate the convoluted bureaucracy of permits, lawyers 
and NGOs, these families must rely on phone calls and the internet to 
transcend borders and stay connected.

Best Film/ Documentary; Special Mention - Birds Eye View Film Festival 
in London (2013); Hot Docs International Documentary Festival (2013).

This is event is organized as part of 2017 Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) 
in Toronto.

*ABOUT ISRAELI APARTHEID WEEK 2017:*
First launched in Toronto in 2005, IAW has grown to become one of the 
most important global events in the Palestine solidarity calendar. This 
year, IAW will take place in more than 150 cities across the globe. The 
week aims to raise awareness about Israel's ongoing practices of 
apartheid, occupation and dispossession against the Palestinian people. 
Lectures, films, and creative actions will build support for the 
Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement.

Israeli Apartheid Week in Toronto is organized by Students Against
