*On Wednesday, July 18^th , the new provincial government of Ontario
prepares to pass the 3rd Reading of the York University back-to-work
legislation (titled “Back to Class Act”) as part of an omnibus bill.
This legislation breaches the constitutionally protected right of
unionized members to freely negotiate their collective agreements and
undermines the collective bargaining process. Such legislation also
sends a signal to employers that they can avoid meaningful engagement
and good faith bargaining by stonewalling and awaiting government
intervention. *
*CUPE Ontario has organized a Day of Action at Queen's Park to protest
this draconian approach to settling labour disputes in the province.
Come and join allies in the labour movement from 12-2 pm tomorrow (July
18^th ) and let the government know what you think of its interference
in the collective bargaining process.*
*What: Day of Action to protest the government back to work legislation*
*When: Wednesday, July 18^th , 12-2pm*
*Where: Queen’s Park (in front of the legislature building)*
