Greetings again friends,

We are writing now at the request of student organizers who are part of
the Divestment & Beyond coalition, to share information about a student
walkout taking place across the country in solidarity with the
Wet'suwet'en. You have likely heard about a tentative agreement that may
address some of the larger issues around Indigenous rights and
jurisdiction in the works, yet there is still much to be addressed and
there has been a direct call from the Wet'suwet'en to keep up the
pressure

through solidarity actions. Details are below.

Many thanks!

Hello,

We hope this email finds you well. We are a coalition of student
organizers, including members from Leap U of T, Climate Justice Toronto
and the Indigenous Law Students’ Association. Along with thousands of
people of conscience across so-called Canada, we have been shocked and
appalled by the behaviour of the RCMP and the BC and Canadian
governments in response to the Wet’suwet’en Nation’s peaceful fight
against a pipeline on their unceded territory.

We know that many of you have taken action in solidarity with the
Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs through a variety of ways. As students,
we thank you for the example you have set for us, and for the valuable
education you have provided to your classes and mentees.

As long as the RCMP remain on Wet’suwet’en territory, and as long as the
hereditary chiefs call for allies to keep up the pressure, we will
continue demonstrating in support of their fight against violent
colonial extractivism. This Wednesday, March 4, students in schools
across the country will stage a walkout in solidarity. At 1:45pm,
students will walk out of our classes to meet by 2pm on the St. George
side of Sidney Smith Commons, 100 St. George Street.

Any support that you are able to provide to this action will be
sincerely appreciated. Please feel free to circulate the date and time
of this action to your students; to encourage members your networks to
attend; and to attend in your capacity as professors. We will have
music, food and plenty of energy to spare, and we welcome any and all
who wish to show support.

Many thanks for all that you do as educators in this formative moment!
