On April 22, 2021 the Canadian Association of University Teachers voted
unanimously to censure the University of Toronto for rescinding an offer
of employment to direct the International Human Rights Program, after an
important donor expressed concerns with the candidate’s research on
Palestine. The censure of UofT takes on new importance and urgency in
the context of the Israeli bombardment of Gaza as well as militarized
violence in East Jerusalem and in many other Palestinian cities and
neighbourhoods. In this panel, we link these events by thinking about
what can be said, by whom, and with what consequence--in the media, in
classrooms, and in Canadian universities--about Palestine. Have the
parameters of the speakable shifted in the current moment? And what
spaces of discourse and resistance are available to those of us who want
to learn, teach, research, and act in solidarity with Palestine?
