/Dear colleagues, /
/
/
/The following call for solidarity was circulated by the Ontario
Confederation of University Faculty Associations <https://ocufa.on.ca>
(OCUFA) to all its member associations, including YUFA./

Dear colleagues,

As you might have heard, OSSTF <https://www.osstf.on.ca/en-CA> (Ontario
Secondary School Teachers' Federation), the union representing high
school teachers and support staff, has announced a one-day
strike/walk-out on Wednesday, December 4th
<https://www.osstf.on.ca/news/mr-nov-28-2019.aspx>. If you are able to
find time, we encourage our members to join a picket line and show
solidarity with the teachers and education workers currently pushing
back against the Ford government’s bargaining agenda and attacks on
public education. OSSTF members will be picketing in front of high
schools and MPP offices in most districts. For more information about
the picket line(s) in your area, please check the website for the OSSTF
local in your district or contact them directly. You can find the list
of OSSTF locals divided by school districts here
<https://www.osstf.on.ca/about-us/districts-and-bargaining-units.aspx>.

For those of you in the GTA, there will be picket lines at most high
schools, as well as the following locations:

1 Civic Centre Court <https://goo.gl/maps/Sxrdf1oRtiqUYjhK6> (Etobicoke)

5050 Yonge Street <https://goo.gl/maps/fdZyG7JgG8hoMVaN6> (North York)

140 Borough Drive <https://goo.gl/maps/eHDA56tqEKy9Wfqw8> (Scarborough)

Doug Ford’s constituency office, 823 Albion Road
<https://goo.gl/maps/pEdZF5d28rEj7EUM9> (Etobicoke)

OPSBA office, 439 University Avenue
<https://goo.gl/maps/363kymY2mRW2RJ2Y7> (Toronto)

If you can get a delegation from you association to join a picket line,
please take pictures and post to your social media. Feel free to also
tag OCUFA so we can amplify the message.

OSSTF (along with other education unions) has been bargaining with the
government since early summer and has been in legal strike position
since November 25th. The government has consistently refused to move on
any of the main bargaining issues, particularly their demands for
increased class sizes and mandatory e-learning credits. You can follow
OSSTF's bargaining updates here <https://bargainingforeducation.ca/>.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mina
(mrajabi at ocufa.on.ca <mailto:mrajabi at ocufa.on.ca>) at the OCUFA office.
