Greetings,,
Our next meeting, in two weeks time, on May 13, will feature our own Paul Bassett. He has made many interesting & challenging presentations to us in the past and this one may be his best yet!
Paul's subject is "What Do Black Holes, Holograms & Intelligence Have in Common?".
He will explain that our understanding of reality is changing profoundly, including our understanding of understanding. He begins by explaining what John A. Wheeler meant by "The physical world is made of information; energy and matter are incidentals;" and ends with how Alex Wissner-Gross used the maximum entropy principle to create a system with general intelligence. Strange as it may sound, along this path we'll glimpse some deep connections among all the forces of nature.
As usual, our meeting is at 7:30 P.M., Room 408, Physics Bldg., U of T.
